Bardot studies

I got it into my head the other week to participate in caricaturama 3000, whoever it was the next time, and it turned out to be Brigitte Bardot. Which actually was really interesting. Youtube's the best place to go first of course. Her sexuality and beauty was all there in the flesh and the movement, it was natural and rare, even in low res. Almost sinisterly powerful. Not like now when some people seem to measure beauty by the amount of money an ordinary faced stiff lady spends on surgery and dodgy photoshopping.

So I sketched and sketched and it was hit and miss, but I had missed this frenzy of drawing, searching out the truth in lines and squiggles.

Water Paint Chaos Year

So this year I am going to try watercolour... in fact I am quite excited about this and thinking about it while working at the camera shop, thinking of sponges and honey.

Oh and I tried Marlo as an experimental initial muse. She drew me and my sister Hannie so I suppose after that I felt a a bit like I was allowed, though I began casually.

This one's at a disadvantage for being the first, and horizontal, it will come out small on the blog... click to enlarge.

Mr old timey caricature yawn king doesn't care.

Was watching Inland Empire during this, wondering whether to throw caution to the wind and go much weirder in future

organic hip potato Chloe

A bit more like it... I kind of relaxed with Chloe and improvised jazzwise with her. It is good to be organic with things.

The photos these were from were in full sunlight, which makes for squinting and strong dark shadows, obviously.

bints

I did some more Katherine experiments with figuring out how dark the pencils went.

sorta stopped before it went really far. She's not my muse.

Booby Lady

Here is Smiling Booby Lady II!

(I might change the title one day.)

She's a bit ghoulish, but she was mainly an excercise in using up paint.

Moon Expert Lady

I watched the Sky at Night around the time of the lunar eclipse in the UK a few weeks ago, and I liked some of the moon scientist faces when they were explaining things about the moon.

This lady is called Katherine Joy.

Bobcat Noodlings

I had a couple of days during which I tried to make 'cats' have Karolina Kurkova's mouth.

I decided I like Bobcats when they are scruffy and threadbare.

Make it come true

I'm now trying to paint some 'beautiful paintings' that combine together all the best things I've learned from drawing lately. The kind of paintings that would be self-justifying, even if I never wrote blogs or tried to be clever. I have to think the word 'beautiful' to myself to make it come true.

But in the meantime here's a lady with awkward composition. I don't think she minds. Except she's lacking one of her eyes.

I think I unintentionally made her look a bit more like some of the female members of my immediate family than she oughta.
