not quite things

I don't have anything satisfying that's new, but I want to update so here are some of the doodles from lately. Where am I going with these? Hmm.

Have been painting slow paintings mainly, that aren't done yet.

I got some markers for my birthday, but mainly pink and purple. I love the marks they make, but can't do an awful lot with these colours by themselves.

Simultaneously I continue to sketch the Beach Boys until I get better at it.

And here is handsome handsome Bob.

Finished/ unfinished/ tidied up/ messed up.... it used to be a lot more yellow...

Van Gogh was a heavy advocate of yellow.

Here's an old painting that I started years ago, and sort of finished now. Though I'm not sure it's really finished. It might be called 'some men help Jesus'. It used to have a lot more stuff in it, some of which got painted out. I could always paint some different stuff back in.

And this is its previous appearance on this blog two years ago, 'bat flash jesus ghosts'.

Brian.... almost

So last Tuesday I saw Brian Wilson at the Royal Albert Hall. Brian looms large in my imagination. Since breaking up with wrestling, Brian's been looming anew, in a different way.

Even though I've drawn Brian in the past, I've not had a really bold run at grasping the specific forms before now.

So these are quite 'early' artefacts in this particular process.

Going back in time... with biros and a grey marker pen I sort of began to loosen up. Hard to be fearless with lovely Brian.

Promise to go mental soon.

David

I determined to try to draw the comedy duo Mitchell and Webb, but my primary interest was in Mitchell and I've only got as far as him. Webb's face is less memorable, but that shouldn't be an excuse.

He's like literally the physical opposite of Randy Orton. I liked the symmetry of that. He has massive dark brown irises and sticky out eyes. (Click to enlarge)

Some of my experiments were more successful than others

Here's a bit of Peep Show which is a jolly good British sitcom of Now.

I should mention that I went to see Brian Wilson at the Royal Albert Hall on Tuesday and had a jolly nice time and drew Sir Peter Blake. In front of Sir Peter Blake. Probably some artwork will be forthcoming based around my experiences of this week.
