Here are some drawings that have been done for a while but that didn't make the blog because of being the first stage, the conservative drawing, the boring drawing, not fun enough, etc. Just studies. Just doodles. Just learning. No particular place to go. Unfocused. Likenesses only loosely grasped.
But I was looking at some of them and thinking, they're not so bad.
Besides, I'm thinking in terms of getting more subtle, rather than getting more wild and crazy. Retracting my claws. Retreating to a state of measured moderate centredness in order to find the truth that way.
I quite like Beatrix Potter at the moment. And her scientific naturalism and love of fungus.
This next one's a mess. But sometimes, mess is what one makes.
Gosh, aren't I chaotic. It won't do. Still there's just so much nice stuff to look at in the world. It's not easy to decide.
Here is one of my last wrestler studies. Randy's uglier inner qualities are seeping out increasingly.
I've actually cancelled my Sky Sports subscription and am on a break from watching wrestling. I have broken up with it. Still, I have plenty of material still if my ambivalence lets up.
Here's when I suspended my judgments and tried to look anew at these two faces. I had been overly mean to John and overly kind to the other one, possibly. There are lots of aspects to a face. It's almost like they're alive.
Here's Katie the moon scientist before she was pink.
'Hair not pretty' I wrote.
Here's Bob having fun in zero gravity and having no boundaries.
Note the Rex rabbit 'studies' in this one.
Meditations on a waxed sex monster. These drawings often threatened to become something obscene and riddled with rudeness. But I never quite went there. That would be... a niche.
So I shall make a nicer taste by leaving the last word to Jeremy Fisher. In this picture I identify with Jeremy. Jeremy is me, or perhaps you, and the stickleback represents all the scary things in life.
NB. sorry if any of these have actually been blogged before. It's hard to remember everything. They're all familiar to me, but I hope it's from real life and not from prior blogging.

Hi Chloe!
Thank you for visiting my blog. Studiousness indeed. Will have to work a bit harder to crank out some more work instead of just studies.
Your studies are very nice. As I have said before, lovely loose lines and great energy in the drawings. Something I can really learn from.
Cheers,
Arco
Thanks for sharing these previously unshared shareables Chlojo. I love the vulnerable hopefulness in HBK's eyes and cheeks. And the Aslanish quality of the kitties.
Hello Scott Jordan Harris. Yeah, it's a shame I wasn't like ever fully inspired by HBK. His face is well complicated. But he's a slippery kipper, as we've always said. I wouldn't know what to do with him.
The man likes to wee.
Yes... the closer I came to the brutal truth about certain wrestlers, perhaps the more interesting/honest the pictures could have become, whilst also alienating wrestling itself and all who like it. My love affair with wrestling was in danger of becoming dysfunctional, nay, mutually abusive!
Amongst this collection are some studies of the drawings of Victor Ambrus
, the draftsman from Time Team on Channel 4. He's good at cave badgers and imginary leprosy. In all seriousness, he's excellent.
I always enjoy your nice comments, Chloe. Very pleased to know I'm consistent in something =]
Yes! - the Lost finale was very satisfying. And exhausting. I don't think they should make more seasons though, although of course I will watch religiously.
Sorry to hear about your breakup with wrestling.
I really like this drawing with the heads at various angles.

Hi Marc
I'm a bit sad about my breakup with wrestling too. But the relationship had turned a little bit nasty. Wrestling had started taking me for granted and flicking bogeys at my head. I had become weary of its bad habits and started stopping making it tasty steroid trifles of love.
I wondered with the end of wrestling if I might draw some of the cast of lost. There's still a batsqueak of zeitgeist about it. But I'm not sure about the whole area. It might be just a kind of pandering to transient things. I make my own strange moral rules about these issues.
I'd put it like this: my sheer enthusiasm is no longer enough to fuel further adventures in wrestling.
Then again, that 'sheer enthusiasm' stage rarely lasts forever.
If I had received maybe more definite external encouragement or financial inducement, or if I do in the future, things could change again. But it feels like too much of a strange niche and an old stale habit to just keep on going despite my doubts.
I mean, Mick talked about putting in a good word for me with WWE, I've no idea if he did, but unless something actually happens, I don't feel compelled right now to be the innocent yet weird cheerleader for wrestling that I once was.
I can understand that - I'm looking forward to seeing what replaces wrestling for you. I think a couple Chloe Lost-themed drawing sessions would be fantastic ....
Here are some of the ideas I've had for new subject matter. I haven't been fully convinced by any of them. No new muses have thrust themselves upon me. So here's the list:
1.Comedy double acts (male) beginning with Mitchell and Webb (Don't know if Americans would know who they are.) - I need new faces to LEARN the way I almost did with some wrestlers.
2.Actual nature, but possibly on the micro scale, like, sort of fairy scale, which I've toyed with for years.
3.Drawings of famous artists who I like. Rembrandt, Goya, Picasso, Blake, they all had great faces. Don't have video of them doing dropkicks tho.
4.A greater concentration on cats, esp. spotty ones. Again, they have been a sub-theme for a while, I could have a really good run at them. The connection one has with a cat. The mystery of a cat. Getting more to grips with the anatomy.
5.Beardy men. All men having beards. Jesus Christ, greek gods, classic beardy men. Saintly beards. Evil beards.
6.Knights of the Arthurian sort... possibly riding spotty cats. Obscure legends.
7.Naked Chloe.
8. More kissing figures and heads eating each other. But it's hard not to think of wrestlers when I think of that.
Maybe I could combine all of the above into a single megaphase.
Chloe, Thank you for the encouraging comments you left on my blog.
I love your drawings. You have a luxuriously fearless line. Your paintings are lovely as well. I intend to spend more time here soon.
Thank you Bill, that's really nice.
Can you have a line that's all small and delicate but still fearless? I shall try to strike a balance.
Excellent list - I'd love to see some comedy double acts through the Cumming filter.
As you predicted though, I've never heard of Mitchell and Webb (until now) =]
I've been pondering it, Scott, and I'm not sure I see 'hopefulness' in HBK's eyes and cheeks.
In fact mostly I see odd sneeryness in him. That and unreadableness.
Maybe you're seeing better than me.
Marc... either that or I could be the next Beryl Cook. She just died at the end of May, and she came from this part of the country. I don't mean literally that I would paint fat women going to the pub. Just that maybe it pays to have a consistent gimmick.
I almost had it with the wrestlers, but not quite.
HAPPY BIRTHDAY, CHLOE!
Gorgeous work!
