Wrestling is still fun

Some of these drawings are leftovers and anomalies from earlier eras.

What the heck is this? What possessed me? Sometimes when I try to assimilate cartoon influences things go a bit ungainly. John K just did another post about 'cute' and I think I might be an unmaster of cute, like McKimson. I'm rubbish. Maybe I have a man gene in my drawing lobes. But maybe I haven't tried hard enough for cute, maybe I'm beating about the bush looking for something obscure:

I was never going to post this one because I thought it was stiff and clumsy, then I looked at gaping John up on the rough drawings wall, and he acquired a certain pathos there by himself on the big blue expanse of paper, seemingly gaping in total incomprehension:

These are drawings that I reckon I learn from. Stuff about poise and bodies and thighs and bulges and face lumps, and bulges. Important stuff.

Moo. Mooooooo!

It's all about the cowfolk. One has to think of the cattlekind when planning minotaurs.

Actually this is me saying 'moo'. And a man cow facing the other way.

My face has some peculiar angles from underneath.

This messy minotaur has borrowed Ric Flair's trunks. He is wrestling with a flower.

My thought process seems to involve a whole lotta scribblin' these days.

Self with unsettlingly large infant forehead and crazy person eyes (plus gentle innocent cattle person):

These two cows live two gardens away from our house. They are my neighbours. They know me and Bob. They can see me when I'm in the bathroom brushing my teeth. they say 'moo!' at me. The black and white one seems kind of agitated lately. The brown one has a deeper more melifluous moo. But she is a lady not a man cow.

Now look here!

Right! (Said in Basil Fawlty style) These are the paintings I have left on ebay right now. They only have two days left to go. Ebay sales have slowed so I'll probably have a bit of a break from listing stuff once these are done. So take your chance, friends! I need pens!

Clicking on the pictures takes you to the auctions.

This small painting of the Beach Boys on the Jack Benny TV show I once showed to Sir Peter Blake. He said it was lovely. Honest that really happened.

This is only part of a little sketch from Piero Della Francesca.

And this is a painting of the Undertaker, who has the best gimmick ever out of any wrestler ever. Also he is supernatural and brill. it is a nice painting. You wannnnt it. You waaaaaaaaaaaant it.

Notsupercocky Thunderbullocks Ho!!

I've been trying to puzzle me out some minotaur shenanegizing.

Not feeling super cocky today, but it's nice to do a blog.

I found a cracked celtic man I liked I think I might incorporate his cracks

Also painted this banisters woman. She's a bit wimpy compared to the others. I'm working on a more robust sister.

To get a grip on minotaurs, one first has to deal with cattle and menboys

And then what happened was it was my birthday and I stopped hitting myself with sticks and allowed myself one drawing of pure demented wrestlehomo campjoy.

John Cena is Liono and Randy Orton is He Man.

I ought to have some minotaur paintings soon, since I have been commissioned to do one anyway.

There are still a lot of tussles and grapplings in figuring out how to paint right. It never gets easysmooth.

Spotty Beasts

I was going to do some paper paintings with well composed meaningfully faced leopards. This one had a nice face but I didn't really compose him.

One of these is from Borneo:

Then I went into colour and tried to think it all through.

This one has a preview of Minotaurism which may be coming next.

I really like this Hogarth painting with servant heads.

shake the mountains when they dance

Here are some leftover boys. Boy drawings. Scrappy little drawings that are a means to some kind of as yet not quite congealed end.

See I didn't used to draw fast like this. Now I do draw fast as a way of thinking and getting a handle on shapes and forms. But the fast drawings give me clues to take forward to more purposeful drawings and paintings. And yet the fast drawings are still tangible bloggable items.

Blogs make everything feel like an 'end'. Here are my drawings... bish bash bosh.

This leads to a sense of 'What was I doing?'

But I am definitely doing SOMETHING.

I guess I like fast drawings, but I don't want to get seduced by them to the point of forgetting what I was aiming for. That's what I was getting at.

This is a pouty exhausted Randy.

These are rough Cenas with Fred Flintstone for comparison:

This manboy used to smirk when he was younger:

WTF? Is what I said to myself when I re-experienced this one:

This one combines boyman meanyness with Milt Gross studies:

I do like big boys these days. I wish I was better with words and could say more why I draw them.

A little bit without rude words in of E E Cummings: 'the boys I mean are not refined':

'they speak whatever's on their mind
they do whatever's in their pants
the boys i mean are not refined
they shake the mountains when they dance'

I was looking for poems about boyness but that one's a little bit unsympathetic. I don't want to reinforce negative stereotypes about wrestlers or anything. Then I did a little search for poems with the word 'wrestler' in and I found this line by a chap called Robinson Jeffers:

The second-born has strength for his beauty; when he strips for swimming the hero shoulders and wrestler loins Make him seem clothed.

But that's enough of all that.

Little Sister

I painted another lady. Well she's sort of the same lady as I have painted before. She is a little sister. A little red doll sister.

The big sister one was more assymmetric in the face. This one has a different palette. Which one do you like better, comment friends?

Incidentally, the way those little amazon links work is that if you buy something on amazon after getting there through my link, I get a little bit of the money, even if you don't buy the things I've displayed. Hey that Randy Orton figure isn't even available! I just like the the cut of his little jib, dammit.
